DCLM Sincere Milk 19 July 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Forward Ever
Topic: Forward Ever
Text: Genesis 19:17-22
17And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.
18And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:
19Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:
20Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.
21And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.
22Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
Key Verse: “And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee …” Genesis 19:17a
Message
The will and plan of God for you is that you will make progress in all areas of your life- spiritually, physically, socially and academically. What is important is that you obey His word. Obedience to divine direction is the key to expecting the blessings of God.
Lot and his family escaped divine judgment that came on Sodom and Gomorrah. Then the instruction of the angels was that they should not look back. When his wife remembered all the things she had left behind, she looked back and she became a pillar of salt.

Just like Lot’s wife, many children don’t like to obey simple instruction. They profess to be friends of Jesus who are seeking the kingdom of God, yet somehow, they are looking backward. They can’t totally forsake all the things they used to have and do, so that they might enjoy the full package of salvation that comes from Christ.
God has a good plan for your life and He does not want you to miss out because of disobedience. His will is for you to go forward with faith, trusting Him to take care of you all along the way.

Prayer for today: Lord, I receive strength to go forward and make progress in life.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
