DCLM Higher Everyday 23 November 2023 — Gain Of Godliness
Topic: Gain Of Godliness
Text: 1 Timothy 4:7-12
7But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
8For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
9This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.
10For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
11These things command and teach.
12Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
Key Verse: “For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come” (1 Timothy 4:8).
Message
A lot of people take to different kinds of games, whether indoor or outdoor, to exercise the body. Some pay regular visits to gyms while others never miss daily jogging. It is true that exercising the body through games and sports contributes to health but is of little value, because the gain is for a short time and for this world alone. Godliness is profitable for life here and in the hereafter. God will not bless the ungodly. Charles Blair said, “You can’t trample on the rights and feelings of others, charge high prices for shoddy merchandise and at the same time expect God to bless your business.”
The godly man is afraid of nothing but God, because he knows Him as his Father, and will not hurt him while he lives righteously. Moreover God is his shield and buckler against satanic forces. Godly youths have peace with God, they are in partnership with God and make progress through Him. The ungodly will be barred from His goodness and banished from His presence in eternity. Godliness secures God’s blessings now and in eternity.
Quote: Godliness secures God’s blessings
Challenge: Godliness is profitable.
Prayer for today: Holy Father, give me grace to remain godly.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
