Topic: God Cannot Lie – Part 2

Text: Hebrews 6:17-20

17Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:

18That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

19Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;

20Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Key Verse: “That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us.” Hebrews 6:18

Message

In science, we learn that living things have certain characteristics that are parts of who they are. For example, humans can breathe, move, and grow. Similarly, God has qualities that show that He is our God and not man. For example, we know that God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and everywhere at all times. One thing that is totally opposite to God’s nature is lying. God is always truthful, just like living things always act according to their nature. People lie because they’re afraid, want to avoid punishment, or feel embarrassed. But God, Who is all-powerful and can do anything, does not lie. His promises are always true.

Because God cannot lie, we can trust Him completely. He has always kept His promises to people in the past, and He has not changed. This should make us want to read the Bible, hold unto His promises, and believe that He always does what He says He will do.

Prayer for today: God, help me to trust You more every day of my life.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
