Text: 2 Samuel 24: 18-25

18And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite.

19And David, according to the saying of Gad, went up as the LORD commanded.

20And Araunah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king on his face upon the ground.

21And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshingfloor of thee, to build an altar unto the LORD, that the plague may be stayed from the people.

22And Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him: behold, here be oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood.

23All these things did Araunah, as a king, give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the king, The LORD thy God accept thee.

24And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

25And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.

Key Verse: “And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.” 2 Samuel 24:24

Message

David was to offer a sacrifice to God on Araunah’s threshing floor (field). Going by his position as a king, he could have taken the land and the animals to make the sacrifice for free, but instead he chose to purchase them. David told him he would not offer burnt offering to the Lord at no cost.

God desires that we give our best to Him and not left-overs, cheap or rejected things. Some young people treat God as a beggar by putting dirty, crumpled, torn and rejected money into the offering bag. Others are deliberately waiting till old age to serve God after wasting youthful strength on things of no eternal value.

Friends of Jesus should give the best of their time, talents and resources generously and cheerfully to the service of the Master. You can serve God by caring for others, praying for them, sharing the testimony of your salvation, joining the church workforce like the choir, ushers, decorators etc. There are times it may not be so convenient to do so, but with determination and the love of God in your heart you can give your service towards the progress of the work of God. Great blessings

Prayer for today: Father, please help me to always give the best of everything I have to You.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
