DCLM Higher Everyday 16 August 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — God Made Man a Wonder
Topic: God Made Man a Wonder
Text: Genesis 2:15-19
15And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
16And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
18And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
19And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
Key Verse: “And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it” (Genesis 2: 15).
Message
There is dignity in labour. Work entails labour, occupation and job. God expects all humans regardless of age to work. Adults are to be occupied with one work or another. Youths and children are also to be diligent in their studies or academics in order to pave way for a brighter future. Thomas Edison declared, “I never did anything worth doing by accident, nor did any of my inventions come by accident; they came by work.” He also asserted that, “God gives every bird its food, but he does not throw it into the nest.” This depicts that perseverance and perspiration are factors in viable work engagement. One must be busy doing something positive.
Our Lord gave us a command to occupy till He comes. As a devout youth, evangelism is very important. Hear Otto Von Bismarck, “To youth I have but three words of counsel – work, work, work.”
Quote: Occupy till He comes
Challenge: There is work for everyone to do.
Prayer for today: Help me Lord to be diligent in my studies and evangelism.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
