DCLM Higher Everyday 23 July 2025 — Godly Virtues -Part 2: Perseverance
DCLM Higher Everyday 23 July 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Godly Virtues -Part 2: Perseverance
Topic: Godly Virtues -Part 2: Perseverance
Text: Luke 18:1-8
1And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
2Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
3And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
4And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
5Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
6And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
7And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
8I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
Key Verse: “And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them” (Luke 18: 7)
Message
“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up,” said Thomas Edison. For Edison, F.A.I.L. meant ”First Attempt in Learning.” Perseverance is the strong determination to continue in the face of difficulties, obstacles, or setbacks. Perseverance will make students defy all odds. Students exhibit perseverance when they feel exhausted but study through the night, keeping their eyes on the goal of achieving good grades. When faced with failure such students choose to face the challenge and try again, rather than give up.

Those who give up at the threshold of their breakthrough will never attain the desired success. Do not give! Do not quit. A little impetus will lead you to the path to victory. What makes or breaks people is how they react to difficulties and obstacles in life. Setbacks are often disguised opportunities. Make your obstacles stepping stones. Learn from past mistakes and failures and keep moving forward – you will prosper. Never let go; move forward! Refuse to give up on your studies or Christian life. You will surely win.
Quote: Try again rather than give up
Challenge: What makes or breaks people is how they react to difficulties.
Prayer for today: Lord, give me the fortitude to hold on till my breakthrough.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
