DCLM Sincere Milk 30 January 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Good deeds pay
TOPIC: GOOD DEEDS PAY
TEXT: LUKE 7:1-5
1Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.
2And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.
3And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.
4And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:
5For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.
MEMORY VERSE: “For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.” (LUKE 7:5)
MESSAGE:
John D. Rockefeller was the first billionaire in the world. At age 25 he controlled one of the largest oil refinery companies in his nation, at 31 he became the world’s largest oil refiner. By 38 he commanded 90% of the oil refined in the United States of America; at 53 he became ill, his entire body was weighed down with pains and he lost all his hairs. His doctors predicted he was going to die within a year.
One day he woke up and it dawned on him that he was not going to take his wealth to the grave. He decided to channel his assets to building hospitals, research and mission work.

Amazingly, the moment he began to give back a portion of all that he earned; his body chemistry was altered so significantly that he got better. At 58 he became the richest man in the country. His personal doctors predicted that he would die at 53 but he lived to be almost 98 years old.
The story of Rockefeller shows the wonders of good deeds. The centurion in our text got people to speak for him before Jesus because of his good deeds. Always take out time to help others. Do things in your community, church or school that put smiles on other people’s faces. Don’t close your eyes against the needs of others, invest in good deeds.

PRAYER FOR TODAY: Dear Father, help me to use the blessings you have bestowed on me to bless others too.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
