DCLM Higher Everyday 20 October 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Heed The Call Of Christ
Topic: Heed The Call Of Christ
Text: Matthew 4:18-22
18And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
19And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
20And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.
21And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.
22And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
Key Verse: “And he saith unto them, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him” (Matthew 4:19).
Message
Jesus Christ came to earth to reconcile God and humanity, providing a means of escaping sin and gaining entry into heaven. Thus, the call of Christ is a call to salvation, loving God, and becoming a soulwinner. Hence John L. Mason says that, “God chooses ordinary men and women for extraordinary work.” It is only when faith is put into practice by paying attention, as Simon did, will the purpose of Christ’s call be fulfilled. We hear of “God’s Generals” such as: Martin Luther, T. L. Osborn and Daisy Osborn today because they heeded the call of Christ and became instruments to bring others to the kingdom of God.

It is the duty of every follower of Christ to lead others to Him. Because Jesus brought you from darkness to light, it becomes imperative that you work for others to follow in His footsteps. God is deeply moved by souls, which suggests that you share His compassion and passion for souls. Remember, every Christian is a missionary, be it in your home country or with a special call to serve overseas.
Quote: Lead others to Him
Challenge: Answer the call of Christ.
Prayer for today: I am thine O Lord; hold my hand to follow you.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
