TOPIC: HELP FOR A DESTRUCTIVE HABIT
TEXT: 1 THESSALONIANS 5:21-24
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
MEMORY VERSE: “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 THESSALONIANS 5:23).
MESSAGE
“No matter what has happened to you in the past or what is going on in your life right now, it has no power to keep you from having an amazingly good future if you will walk by faith in God,” says Joyce Meyer.
11A destructive habit as portrayed by this line of thought in our quote, could refer to a youth who is knocked down by the power of sin like fornication, masturbation, and internet fraud.
Could there be any hope for this youth? Yes, of course, if the youth recognises that his or her sinfulness could destroy him or her, and turns a new leaf by accepting the sacrifice of Christ and yielding his or her body as an instrument of righteousness.
The individual needs to press towards sanctification by asking God in prayer for total removal of the root of sin. He or she needs to pray fervently to God to destroy any form of association with the destructive habit.
Do you engage in a destructive habit? Get rid of it today through prayer of faith and determination to remain faithful to God.
QUOTE: Do you engage in a destructive habit?
CHALLENGE: Only God can destroy destructive habits.
PRAYER: Dear Holy Spirit, help me to conquer destructive habits.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
