Topic: Mount Sinai – Historical Background
Text: Exodus 19:1-8
1In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.
3And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;
4Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.
5Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
6And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
7And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.
8And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.
Key Verse: “For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.” Exodus 19:2
Message
Mountain Sinai is the mountain in the wilderness where after the crossing of the Red Sea, God met with Moses and delivered the law. Early in the Israelites wilderness journey, God told the people to get ready to meet with Him. God promised He would deliver His law to them from the mountain top so that they would know how to conduct themselves. The people were warned to stay away from the mountain itself, for it would be a holy ground.

God descended on mount Sinai with a fearful display of power, thunder and lightning, a dark cloud, fire and smoke, the blast of trumpet and quaking of the earth. The people became so afraid that they asked that God should speak to Moses and let Moses be the intermediary. Moses spent a long time on Sinai and God allowed Moses to witness some of His glory. When Moses came down from the mountain, his face was shining with the glory of God. The people were afraid of him, so he put a vei lover his face so he would not frighten the people.
Today, you can come into a relationship with God because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He is our Saviour, Who has come to remove the veil and everything that can hinder us from coming close to God. All you need to do is to repent from your sin and open your heart to receive Him as your personal Saviour and Friend.

Prayer for today: Lord, please draw me nearer to You.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
