DCLM Higher Everyday 30 November 2024 — Holiness Ensures Heaven
DCLM Higher Everyday 30 November 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Holiness Ensures Heaven
Topic: Holiness Ensures Heaven
Text: Hebrews 12:12-25
12Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;
14Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
15Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
16Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.
17For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.
18For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,
19And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:
20(For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:
21And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)
22But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
23To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
24And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
25See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:
Key Verse: “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14).
Message
Heaven is the eternal abode of God. He is holy and lives in that holy place. Holiness on the other hand, is a state of being pure through the sacrifice of Christ on Calvary. This sin-polluted world is a sharp contrast with what heaven looks like. Heaven is an extremely beautiful place with the streets all made of pure gold and other precious stones. It is the will of God that all youths come to live with Him there after life here on earth is over. This is why He sent His only begotten Son to come and die for sinful humanity.

All those who want to live with Him must be holy like Him. This starts by first surrendering your life to Christ through repentance and then pressing forward to having the holy nature of God. To experience the eternal splendor and glory of heaven should be the desire of every Christian youth. Where would you rather choose to live eternally? Choose heaven by turning away from your sins and accepting Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour.
Quote: Experience the eternal splendor
Challenge: Where do you want to spend eternity?
Prayer for today: Lord, wash me and make me ready for heaven.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
