DCLM Sincere Milk 29 October 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Hosanna to the son of David
TOPIC: “HOSANNA TO THE SON OF DAVID”
TEXT: MATTHEW 21:14-16
14And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.
15And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased,
16And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?
Key Verse: “…and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased” (Matthew 21:15b).
MESSAGE:
During His earthly ministry, Jesus had encounters with many children. They enjoyed His love and felt protected in His presence. He cared for them, prayed for them, fed them, healed them and rebuked His disciples for attempting to stop them from coming to Him. He used them as an example to teach the lesson on humility. He warned that whoever hurts a little child will not escape the punishment of God.

In our Bible passage, children did something special for the Saviour which serves as a challenge to all believers. They openly praised the Lord and confessed Him as the Messiah. Their action makes a very interesting revelation about children: that children are sincere, simple minded, supportive and selfless. They did not fear the threat of the priest and the Pharisees to punish those who openly confess Jesus as Messiah. They could not hide their adoration for the Saviour for the great mercy He had shown to the sick and afflicted.
These children shouted the praise of the Lord, saying, “Hosanna to the son of David”. It was a great honour to Jesus. You shouldn’t hide your praise and love for your Saviour. No threat from anyone should cause you to shut your mouth. In school, at home and in the neighbourhood, tell the story and sing the praise of Jesus.
Prayer: Lord, I thank You for Your mercy, my lips will always sing Your praise.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
