TOPIC: HOW DO YOU DO YOUR WORK?
TEXT: ECCLESIASTES 9:10-12
9 Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.
11 Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone?
12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
MEMORY VERSE: “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest” (ECCLESIASTES 9:10).
MESSAGE
The question, “How do you do your work?” is very penitent. The profile of Anita Osareme Omonuwa, a young Nigerian lady, is instructive for youths.
Anita holds first class degrees from the University of Reading, UK (LLB); University of Birmingham, UK (LLM) and the Nigerian Law School (BL) where she received several prizes including: Best Outstanding Academic Performance and Best Student in Corporate Law Practice. This type of feat can only be attained by consistent and diligent hard work. How do you do your work?
Our text admonishes, “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest” (Ecclesiastes 9:10). Now is the time to work hard, for time waits for no one.
Do your work to excel in your academics, career, spiritual life, and in all your undertakings. Eschew laziness and procrastination. You can excel like Anita if you diligently work hard. Above all, surrender your life to Christ who will empower you to excel.
QUOTE: Do your work to excel.
CHALLENGE: Do your work with diligence.
PRAYER: Help me Lord, to be faithful in all that I do.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
