DCLM Daily Manna 8 April 2025 — Human Depravity And Divine Wrath

DCLM Daily Manna 8 April 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Human Depravity And Divine Wrath

TOPIC: Human Depravity And Divine Wrath (DCLM Daily Manna 8 April 2025)

KEY VERSE: “The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it” (Proverbs 30:17).

TEXT: Proverbs 30:10-20 (KJV)

10 Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.

11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.

12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.

13 There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.

14 There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.

15 The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough:

16 The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not, It is enough.

17 The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

18 There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not:

19 The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.

20 Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

A Jewish man stepped in and watched a part of Adolf Eichmann’s trial and burst into tears. Eichmann was one of the organisers of the holocaust, where millions of Jews were gassed to death in the gas chambers. Someone next to him said, “Your anger must be unbearable.” He said “No, it isn’t anger. The longer I sit here, the more I realize I have a heart like his.” (Charles Colson, 1993 Templeton Address, “The Enduring Revolution”).

In our text, we read a catalogue of abominable behaviour patterns that are common today. A striking example is the cursing, mocking, and despising of parents by ungrateful and ungodly children. Such acts reveal the fallen nature in man and outright disobedience to God’s express commandment to honour one’s earthly parents. Other acts of depravity highlighted in the text are not limited to children but are common to all, irrespective of age, social status, or educational attainments. These include hypocrisy and unconfessed sins, pride and haughtiness, injustice and oppression, covetousness and sexual immorality.

Many of these sins, such as adultery and fornication, are committed in secret. In our passage, they are likened to birds flying through the air, snakes crawling on rocks, and ships going through the sea without leaving any trace visible to the human eye. Adulterers, fornicators, gossips, and liars hide their misdeeds and pretend as if nothing happened, but God sees and knows everything.

Human depravity knows no bounds. It manifests in the works of the flesh in the lives of the unconverted individuals. However, God’s word states that no sinner will go unpunished. Hence, divine wrath awaits wicked persons and ungrateful children. But all is not lost. God is merciful and willing to forgive all who sincerely repent, confess and forsake their sins, and surrender to Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Depravity becomes more glaring when found in a professing Christian.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
