DCLM Sincere Milk 11 April 2025 — Identity Of True Sons

DCLM Sincere Milk 11 April 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiIdentity Of True Sons

Topic: Identity Of True Sons

Text: Hebrews 12:5-11

5And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

6For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

7If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

8But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

9Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

10For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

11Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Key Verse: “But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.” Hebrews 12:8

Message

Salvation experience gives us the privilege to be called sons and daughters of God; and as such we have the right to all provisions in God’s kingdom. However, our Bible passage uses the word bastard to describe children of God who do not behave as real sons and daughters in God’s family; such children hate correction and discipline. A bastard is a stranger to the family of God and has no right in His kingdom.

Our earthly parents show that they truly love us by correcting or discipling us whenever we go wrong. They control and limit our freedom because they want us to become good adults in future. The same way, our heavenly Father corrects us through His word, ministers, godly parents and other Christians. Although the corrections may be painful most of the time, we should cheerfully and joyfully bear them as real children and not bastards. We should also be ready to suffer little persecutions that come our way as a result of our love for Jesus. Our Saviour and Lord Jesus suffered during His earthly work.

As the Lord is moulding your life through many opportunities, He will give you the grace you need to submit yourself to His instructions, corrections and control.

Prayer for today: O Lord, please help me to take to correction with joy and cheerfulness.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
