DCLM Sincere Milk 19 February 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Impatience is a deadly habit
TOPIC: IMPATIENCE IS A DEADLY HABIT
TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 13:7-13
7. And some of the Hebrews went over Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. As for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.
8. And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.
9. And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering.
10. And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him.
11. And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash;
12. Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the LORD: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering.
13. And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.
Key Verse:

MESSAGE:
Impatience is the opposite of patience. Patience is the ability to wait without giving up. It is possible to wait with murmuring, bitterness etc., this type of waiting does not please God. Inpatience shows that one lacks faith in God’s word and without faith, it is impossible to please God.
Mary was often showing signs of impatience at home. Whenever the meal was not ready, she will complain and become upset. Her mother would then scold her by telling her the effect of impatience. When Mary was to go for her final examination, she prepared very well by reading for long hours, unfortunately, when she was to write the examination, she failed to read through the instruction on the question paper. As a result of her impatience she answered only two questions instead of five questions. Guess what happened, she failed. Impatience is a destructive habits that you must not allowed to grow in your life.
Remember, Esau all lost his birthright because of impatience. Remember Saul lost the throne because of impatience. Remember Absalom lost his life because of impatience. Be still and know that God is in control of all things.
Prayer: Dear Father, please impact in me the great virtue of patience.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
