1My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
3And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
Key Verse: “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” 1 John 2:1
Message
An advocate is a person who pleads or intercedes on behalf of another person especially an offender. In the court of law, the judge sits on the judgment seat to decide a case. Whosoever is found guilty will be sentenced accordingly. However, before he gives his judgment, he will give opportunity for the advocate to present his argument on behalf of his client. Through this, the advocate may be able to convince the judge to set the client free irrespective of the offence. In the law court, the advocate is the lawyer or barrister. In the law court, there may be miscarriage of justice due to the judge’s bias or the barrister’s not being able to argue his case with acceptable evidence. Also, a guilty person can be set free if the advocate can plead well and sometimes an innocent one can be sentenced if there is no one to plead his case.

In the spiritual, it is different. There is only one Advocate and His name is Jesus. He is the only One qualified to plead our case before God. He died on the cross and shed His blood to cleanse us from sin and present us spotless before God, the great and righteous Judge. With Jesus as our Advocate, we have nothing to fear. All a sinner needs do is to humbly seek for forgiveness and cleansing of his sins through the blood of Jesus. As a friend of Jesus, you must always go boldly to Jesus in prayers and seek for help in time of need.

Prayer for today: I surrender my life to You oh Lord, come and be my Advocate
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
