DCLM Sincere Milk 17 November 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Jesus, Our perfect example
TOPIC: JESUS, OUR PERFECT EXAMPLE
TEXT: 1 PETER 2:21-24
22Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
23Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
24Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
Key Verse: “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps” (1 Peter 2:21).
MESSAGE:
Jerry was doing very well in his studies until he started learning the bad ways of Gabby, his new friend. Jerry became lazy and disobedient. He started doing badly in his studies and even failed his examinations.
Jerry later realized that the problem was due to the bad things he learnt from Gabby. Jerry became sorry, repented of his sins, stopped the friendship with Gabby and started doing well again in his studies.
Jesus is the perfect example for everyone. There is so much to learn from Him. His life is the best example of success, love, obedience, humility, righteousness, forgiveness, victory over temptations and every good thing you can think about.
The first thing to do is to become one of His many friends by turning away from sin and receiving Him in your heart as your Lord and Saviour. Then, learn more about Jesus by reading your Bible every day and following His example.
Ask God for grace to live like Jesus. Those who follow the examples of Jesus enjoy the blessings of God here on earth and in eternity.
Prayer: Dear Father, please help me to always follow the examples of Jesus in the way I live and behave.
Further Reading: 1 John 2:3-6
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
