Text: Hebrews 11:1-6
1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
2For by it the elders obtained a good report.
3Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
4By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
5By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
6But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Key Verse: “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6
Message
The Bible gave us insight into the lives of some Heroes of faith who were exemplary in the way they served God. However, there are also many heroes of faith in our present generation. These people can also be referred to as God’s generals. They have set examples for us on how to stand for the truth, defend it and proclaim it to the whole world. One of such Heroes is John Wesley. He served God very well, lived to be 87 years old and died about 233 years ago. Yet, his exploit for God is still as fresh as if it just happened few years back.

John Wesley was the founder and leader of the methodist church. He was the 15th child born to Samuel and Susannah Wesley. His younger brother named Charles was the 18th child in the family of 19 children. Though many of the children died in their infancy, these two brothers stood out prominently among the others. Their father was a pastor while their mother, Susannah was a spiritual woman of strength. She devoted time each day to train her children in the way of the Lord. When John Wesley was six years old, he was miraculously saved from a fire that destroyed their family home. When the fire started, the members of the family were evacuated, leaving only John who was sleeping in his bedroom in the second storey. When it was discovered that John was still in the burning building, a neighbour stood on the shoulders of a friend and pulled out John through the window just moments before the building collapsed.
John believed that he was saved from the fire for a purpose. He eventually lived long to fulfill that purpose to the glory of God. Pray that you will fulfill God’s purpose for your life.

Prayer for today: Lord, guide me to fulfill your purpose for my life.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
