DCLM Sincere Milk 2 May 2023 — Just the way you want it
DCLM Sincere Milk 2 May 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Just the way you want it
Topic: Just the way you want it
Text — Matthew 7:9-12
9Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
12Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
Key Verse: “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” Matthew 7:12
Message
Malyne asked her mother to buy a red pen for her. She had just formed the habit of writing the headings and the sub-headings of her notes in red. She got to school the next morning and placed her new pen on her desk, ready to copy her notes. It was not quite long after that the teacher announced that her red pen was missing. Margaret, Malyne’s friend, sitting next to her, saw her friend’s new biro. Without finding out from her friend, she went to the teacher to inform her that the red pen she is looking for is with Malyne. This brought embarrassment to Malyne. Margaret would not have been happy if someone had lied against her.
Our key verse is a law, but how many people obey it? The society would be a more peaceful place if we all do. We know what we like and what we want others to do to us. We are happy when others treat us the way we want. Why do we then find it difficult to do the same good acts we want to them?
Jesus is not happy when we hurt others. Our Lord calls this rule, “the law and the prophets”, meaning that it is just this that the law of Moses and all the teachings of all the prophets centre on. But you cannot fully love others if you have not first loved Jesus. The grace to do what is right to others is through Christ alone. Therefore, surrender your heart to Jesus and become His friend.

Prayer for today: Lord, fill my heart with love and mercy for others, so that I can always do what is right to them.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
