TOPIC: Learn At His Feet (DCLM Daily Manna 15 October 2024)
KEY VERSE: “But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her” – Luke 10:42
TEXT: Luke 10:38-42 (KJV)
38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.
40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:
In the words of Jonathan Edwards, one of America’s revivalists of the 18th Century, “The more you have a rational knowledge of divine things, the more the opportunity will there be, when the Spirit shall breathe into your heart, to see the excellencies of these things, and to taste the sweetness of them.” The Lord shows us new things daily as we seek to learn from His words.

Our text gives an account of Jesus’ visit to the house of Martha and Mary. While Martha was preparing to entertain Christ, Mary sat down, listening to His teachings. Unhappy that her sister left her alone to prepare the entertainment for their guest, Martha urged Jesus to send Mary to join her in the service. But Christ reproved Martha for her misplaced priority, saying, “One thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part which shall not be taken away from her.” Christ’s statement underscores the priority of God’s Word over worldly pursuit. It points out that worldly business is a snare when it hinders us from listening to God and receiving the things that can enrich our souls.
Satan often tempts us to satisfy our physical needs above the spiritual. But Jesus shows us always to rank the spiritual ahead of the physical. Responding to Satan’s temptation, Jesus quoted the Scriptures that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. In stressing this, Jesus maintained the same principle of putting God’s word above physical needs.
Believers must prioritize divine revelation above all else. While we should not neglect the essential services we render for the benefit of the kingdom of God, we must ensure they do not obstruct our assimilation of His word. It is vital never to put anything above the Scriptures.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Misplaced priorities often misguide even the strongest believer.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
