DCLM Sincere Milk 17 October 2024 — Living To Please God
DCLM Sincere Milk 17 October 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Living To Please God
Topic: Living To Please God
Text: Romans 8:4-9
4That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
6For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Key Verse: “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Romans 8:6
Message
I’m tired and need to sleep. I’m not sure I want to participate in the family devotion.” Cheryl said when she was asked to join the rest of the family for the devotion. True to her words, she slept off during the devotion. Immediately after the devotion, her brother turned on the TV to watch cartoon. Surprisingly, Cheryl woke up when she heard the cartoon sound.

Some children, like Cheryl, have no desire for God and things of God. They dislike going to church and when they do, they would be busy playing, talking, reading novels or drawing pictures. They often fall asleep when praying or reading the Bible but would keep awake when watching cartoons. This way of life offends God. Choose to be different. Spend some minutes daily to pray and read God’s word. Do not rush; think about what you read and listen to what God has to say to you. Love God, do only the things that please Him and avoid things that would make Him unhappy.

Prayer for today: Dear Father, give me a heart that loves You and help me to do things that please You.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
