Topic: Looking Up
Text: Colossians 3:1-4
1If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
Key Verse: “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” Colossians 3:2
Message
Judith travelled to spend the vacation in her niece’s house in the city. Soon after her arrival, she heard a very loud noise in the sky, ran out of the house, looked up and saw an aeroplane just taking off as her uncle’s house is not too far from the airport. The aeroplane looked so big when compared with the ones she had seen sometime ago. She was surprised at the size of the plane which made her to continue to look at it until it flew out of her sight.

Many children like Judith are attracted to look up for different reasons. Some it is like sightseeing, others, it maybe to satisfy their curiosity. All these are in the physical realm. Looking up for friends of Jesus is a different and an important assignment. It is a spiritual preparation for the coming of the Lord. Therefore, looking up involves setting our mind on things above, this means that we should always think about heavenly things and how to please God and not the things of this earth. What do you meditate on during your quiet moment when you are alone?
Reading and meditating on God’s word is the only way to help you set your affection on things above. Therefore, make the Bible your best companion.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father help me to always look up and set my affection on things above.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
