TOPIC: MY SHIELD
TEXT: PROVERBS 30:5, 6
5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
Key Verse: “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him” (Proverbs 30:5).
MESSAGE:
A shield is a broad piece of defensive armour, held with hands, and commonly used during war time for the protection of the body.
What does it mean to say that God is your Shield? It means to have God as your Protector, your Guard and Guide, and Rock of Defense. Even much more than these, to have God as your Shield means that you are His, you belong to Him entirely. He has claimed you as His own, and you are a special object of His attention.
The psalmist recognized and described God as His Shield severally in his Psalms. In Psalm 33:20, he says, “Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our sheid.” This attitude of trust and dependence on God gave King David all the victories in wars and other personal battles, and earned him the title “the man after God’s heart.”
There is also a promise of God for all believers in Psalm 91:4 “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.”
Jesus is the sure Shield to those who believe and put their trust in Him. With the word of God and the shield of faith, believers are able to quench all the fiery darts of Satan. If you have not received Jesus as your Saviour, do that today so that He can become your Shield, Protector and Guide.
Prayer: Oh Lord, I put my trust in You. Please continue to be my Shield.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
