DCLM Higher Everyday 5 August 2024 — New Creation In Christ
DCLM Higher Everyday 5 August 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — New Creation In Christ
Topic: New Creation In Christ
Text: 2 Corinthians 5:17-21
17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
19To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
20Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
21For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Key Verse: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Message
Adam and Eve fell in the Garden of Eden in an act of disobedience to God. As a result, man became dead spiritually and was separated from God. However, Christ was manifested and paid the price of our redemption through His blood. This produces a positive change in all who are saved. Joe Bishop states thus, “When a person is saved, there is evidence of salvation. If someone says, ‘I’m saved’, but they continue to lie, steal, and live immorally, it is quite evident they are not saved. If you are saved, your behaviour changes as evidence that something changed on the inside – in the heart.” People around you can easily spot that.
The old sinful lifestyle with its accompanying consequences are passed away. As a new creature in Christ, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling as you grow in grace. Feed daily on the sincere milk of the word of God and pray daily. Tell people of the new life you now have in Christ Jesus and encourage them to come and experience it too.
Quote: Work out your own salvation
Challenge: If you are a new creation then grow!
Prayer for today: Help me, O God, never to go back to the dead, in Jesus’ name.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
