DCLM Sincere Milk  8 January 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiNot My Will

Topic: Not My Will

Text: Luke 22:40-42

40And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.

41And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,

42Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

Key Verse: “… nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” Luke 22:42b

Message

Although they were classmates, Tony disliked Jimmy because he would tell lies to“cover up” for his wrongdoings. One day, Jimmy needed a pen to write but nobody had a pen to spare except Tony. The thoughts of the “bad” things Jimmy had done to him came to Tony’s mind, and he was not willing to give out his pen to him. At the same time, he remembered that God demands that friends of Jesus must not repay evil with evil. Praise God! Tony yielded to God’s will and did what God wanted him to do, he gave the extra pen he had to Jimmy.

The word “will” refer to what we want, love and would have done, said or chosen if God’s word and His Spirit had not directed differently. As recorded in today’s key verse, Jesus obeyed and did the will of His heavenly Father, even though it was painful. He is the perfect Example every friend of His must follow. Paul, Peter, Enoch, Abraham and many other people in the Bible gave up what they would have done, did what God wanted them to do and were greatly rewarded. God is ready to help you, if you would ask Him.

Prayer for today: Dear Father, please help me to obey You and do only the things You want me to do.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
