DCLM Higher Everyday 19 September 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Obedience Brings Blessings
Topic: Obedience Brings Blessings
Text: Isaiah 58:4-12
4Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to be heard on high.
6Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
7Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
8Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.
9Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
10And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday:
11And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
12And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
Key Verse: “Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity…” (Isaiah 58:9).
Message
There is nothing more beautiful than obeying the word of God. Several events in the life of different characters in the Bible have underpinned the fact that obedience to God and His word draws numerous blessings to men. We can see how the obedience of Joseph, Joshua, Daniel, Samuel and other young people in Bible days brought them from Zero to Hero. On the other hand, we saw the likes of King Saul, Jonah, Ananias and Sapphira whose disobedience brought distress and evil upon them.

Friend, you have access to the bank of God’s blessings for your spirit, soul and body, if only you can live in complete obedience to His word and do away with all that displeases Him, either in the school or at home, whether your spiritual leaders are with you or not. Our parents feel so pleased when we do whatever they like. In the same manner, God who is even more faithful than our parents will answer your prayer speedily if you are obedient to Him.
Quote: Live in complete obedience to His word
Challenge: How obedient are you, in secret and in public?
Prayer for today: Father, give me a submissive heart to your word!
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
