TOPIC: Our Promise-Keeping God (DCLM Daily Manna 25 October 2025)

KEY VERSE: “The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.” – (Psalm 132:11).

TEXT: Psalm 132:11-18 (KJV)

11 The Lord hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.

12 If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.

13 For the Lord hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.

14 This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.

15 I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread.

16 I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.

17 There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed.

18 His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

C.S. Lewis in his biography, tells of the suffering he endured because he kept a promise he had made to a buddy during World War 1. This friend was worried about the care of his wife and small daughter if he should be killed in battle, so Lewis assured him that if that were to happen he would look after them. As the war dragged on, the man was killed. True to his word, Lewis took care of his friend’s family. Yet no matter how helpful he tried to be, the woman was ungrateful, rude, arrogant, and domineering. Through it all, Lewis kept forgiving her. He refused to let her actions become an excuse to renege on his promise.

God made promises to preserve David’s royal line and bless his kingdom if his descendants obeyed His covenant. The descendants of David would continue to rule and enjoy God’s presence, with physical and spiritual prosperity. Despite their disobedience leading to the end of their dynasty, these promises have a prophetic dimension pointing to Jesus Christ as the ultimate King who will rule in righteousness forever, as Peter referenced in his message at Pentecost.

The passage emphasises that God is faithful and His promises are unbreakable, as indicated by the phrase “the Lord has sworn in truth.” The writer of Hebrews explains that God reinforces His promises with an oath, showing the unchanging nature of His counsel. This unbreakable aspect of God’s promises should provide us with comfort and security in our journey of faith. The passage underscores the reliability and certainty of God’s word, assuring us that we can safely trust Him.

The promises made to David in the Bible are fulfilled in Christ, who has chosen believers and promised to always be with them. God dwells within believers through the Holy Spirit and provides abundant provisions and sustenance for the poor. While challenges may still arise, believers can trust in God’s care and provision. His promises also include spiritual blessings such as salvation, righteousness, and joy in the Holy Ghost. Those who repent and have faith in Jesus Christ are assured of victory and eternal reign with the Lord. These promises are like open cheques, requiring faith and obedience to claim them and bring joy to those who follow the Lord.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
God is faithful, His promises cannot fail.

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
