DCLM Sincere Milk 6 June 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Own Up

Topic: Own Up

Text: Genesis 3:7-13

KEY VERSE: “And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.” Genesis 3:12

Message

When Adam and Eve had eaten of the fruit God had forbidden them to eat, they realized they were naked, so they sewed fig leaves together to make clothes for themselves. That evening, when they heard God walking in the garden, they were afraid and hid among the trees. But God called, “Where art thou?” When God asked to know whether they had eaten of the forbidden fruit, Adam could not give a straight-forward answer. He pointed accusing fingers at his wife. The wife also pointed to the serpent. They refused to own-up to their sin.

When you’ve done something wrong, you don’t want anyone to find out. You hope that somehow the guilt will just fade away. Do not cover up your sin by telling lies or pretending that nothing happened, and all the time you are afraid of being found out. The good news is that there is a way out. You can have peace in your heart again.

There is only one way to get rid of the sin in your heart and the guilt that it brings; that is to admit that you have done wrong and ask God to forgive you. You also need to apologize to the person you wronged, and if possible, make things right. This takes courage, but it makes your character strong, helps your friendship with others and makes you fit to have fellowship with God.

PRAYER: Lord, I repent of all my sins, forgive and make me clean.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
