TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 17:41-47
42 And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.
43 And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’S, and he will give you into our hands.
MEMORY VERSE: “Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied” (1 SAMUEL 17:45).
MESSAGE
One of the qualities that could bring out our passion is courage. Thus, passion thrives on courage to be effective. According to Dictionary.Com, “Courage is the quality of being ready and willing to face negative situations involving danger or pain.”
Courage mixed with passion can make you face situations without fear. The passion to rescue Israel from the hands of the Philistine, particularly, the warlord, Goliath, made David to choose to confront the danger and intimidation of the enemy nation.
David’s passion with zeal was firmly anchored to God as he energetically challenged Goliath thus: “Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.”
David relied on the name of the Lord which is a strong refuge for believers to confront the enemy with because he had a functional relationship with Him. You must realise that the name of Jesus is above every other name, and mentioning it compels all demons to bow.
QUOTE: Passion thrives on courage.
CHALLENGE: Confront your challenges.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to overcome my challenges.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
