DCLM Higher Everyday 5 October 2025 — Paul’s Attitude Of Gratitude
DCLM Higher Everyday 5 October 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Paul’s Attitude Of Gratitude
Topic: Paul’s Attitude Of Gratitude
Text: Philippians 4:10-20
10But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.
12I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
13I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
14Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction.
15Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.
16For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.
17Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.
18But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.
19But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
20Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Key Verse: “But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity” (Philippians 4:10).
Message
Paul, an Apostle mightily helped of God wrote with gratitude to the church, expressing his appreciation for their support. He never took it for granted that being their spiritual father earned him the care they provided. He knew they gave him out of love, appreciation and in support of the work the Lord had committed into his hands. Despite the economic situation of the Church at Philippi, they never ceased to remember Paul, and gave to support him and the ministry. Paul indeed was very grateful. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace to our today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. There is a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment in a life of gratitude.

As a young person, you need the attitude of gratitude to be successful in life. Take time to thank your parents and they will be encouraged to do more. Take time to thank your teachers and instructors and they will even give you more resources for a greater future. You get more from the Lord too when you thank Him for His blessings.
Quote: Paul indeed was very grateful
Challenge: In all circumstances, give thanks.
Prayer for today: My God, give me the grace to live a life of gratitude.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
