TOPIC: Phillip Made His Mark 1.
Text — Acts 8:4-8
4Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.
5Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them.
6And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
7For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.
8And there was great joy in that city.
Key Verse: “Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them” (Acts 8:5).
MESSAGE:
If you are born again, wise, full of the Holy Ghost, and honest report, but nothing much else is known about you, then you are like Philip in Jerusalem. It was when persecution made him flee to Samaria that the giant in him showed up and he made his mark. David Yonggi Cho wrote, “Our gospel preaching must be in the power of the Holy Spirit, followed by signs and wonders; for wherever the gospel is preached, the old man is thrown off and our old master, the devil, goes out with a loud cry.” That was just what happened when Philip preached Christ in Samaria.
Philip had a willing heart, which was why when Jesus issued a personal call to him to follow Him (John 1:43), he left his old life behind and answered the call. Be like Philip and preach the gospel everywhere you go. Philip remains in religious history as one of the most important Christian preachers, who learned the truth about the kingdom of God at the feet of Jesus and preached it until the end of his life.
Quote: Philip preached Christ in Samaria
Challenge: What is it that discourages you from following Christ?
Prayer for today: Holy Father, fill me with your power to preach Christ.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
