DCLM Higher Everyday 19 May 2025 — Power To Become God’s Child
DCLM Higher Everyday 19 May 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Power To Become God’s Child
Topic: Power To Become God’s Child
Text: John 1:10-14
10He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Key Verse: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12).
Message
It was T. D. Jakes who said that, “Becoming a child of God means receiving a new identity, a new purpose, and a new destiny.” The concept of becoming a child of God is deeply rooted in Christian theology. Our text, especially in verse 12, emphasizes that belief in Jesus Christ grants believers the privilege and authority to be part of God’s family. It’s not merely a biological or earthly inheritance but a spiritual transformation — a rebirth that transcends physical lineage. Those who trust in Christ and accept Him as their Saviour receive this remarkable gift, becoming heirs of God’s promises. However, according to Evang. Billy Graham, “Salvation is not just a one-time event, but a lifelong journey of growth and transformation in Christ.” Will you go with Him?

In summary, the power to become a child of God lies in faith and acceptance of Jesus Christ. Becoming God’s child is a divine invitation extended to all who believe, transcending human limitations and granting us a new identity as beloved members of God’s family. Through this spiritual adoption, we find purpose, hope, and eternal life.
Quote: Becoming God’s child is a divine invitation
Challenge: You can’t afford to be excluded from God’s family.
Prayer for today: Accept me as your child, O Lord!
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
