Topic: Protecting Our Parents

Text: 1 Samuel 22:1-5

1David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father’s house heard it, they went down thither to him.

2And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.

3And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab: and he said unto the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me.

4And he brought them before the king of Moab: and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the hold.

5And the prophet Gad said unto David, Abide not in the hold; depart, and get thee into the land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hareth.

Key Verse: “And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab: and he said unto the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me” (1 Samuel 22:3).

Message

David escaped from King Saul Kish, who wanted him dead. However, about four hundred people, including his relatives, decided to follow him and he became their captain. His mother, who nursed him from childhood and his father who brought him up as a shepherd boy and eventually sent for him to be anointed by Samuel as king, were among these “refugees.” David hated to see his parents suffer and endanger their own lives with him. He had to make a special arrangement with the king of Moab to care for them until conditions improved. That was a wise action by a godly son.

My friend, now or in the future, you may have to protect your parents against loneliness, illness, financial or material hardship, and physical insecurity. According to Nelson Mandela, “Few things make the life of a parent more rewarding and sweet as successful children.”A successful godly child, like David, would care for and protect his parents. Are you godly and diligent? If yes, then help to make your parents happy and fulfilled. Today is Global Day of Parents. Pray for them.

Quote: Make your parents safe

Challenge: The problem of your parents is your problem.

Prayer for today: Help me Lord to contribute to my parents’ welfare.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
