DCLM Sincere Milk 2 January 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Psalmist’s Counsel – Part 1 – Walk Not
Topic: Psalmist’s Counsel – Part 1 – Walk Not
Text: Psalm 1:1-3
1Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
Key Verse: “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,” Psalm 1:1a
Message
Walk is an action word that requires one to go around or do things around an object or someone. God wants a clear separation between His children and the ungodly in every way. To walk in the counsel of the ungodly means to pattern, work with or follow the way of the ungodly. That is, to talk like them, think like them, dress like them or worship the way they do.
Patterning our ways after the ungodly does not bring blessings as the Bible declares, “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly.” Rehoboam took the counsel of the ungodly and it brought regret and sorrow upon him. Amnon the son of David took to the ungodly counsel of Jonadab and it cost him his life. Eve also accepted the counsel from the serpent and it brought trouble to the human race.
In whose counsel do you walk? Romans 8:14 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Do not follow multitude to sin. Separate from bad boys and girls, do not join in their jesting, rioting and disobedience. Keep company with only those who are godly.

Prayer for today: Dear Father, I submit to Your leading, please hold my hands and let me walk by Your side.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
