Topic: Quality Answers To Questions

Text: Mark 11:27-33

27And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders,

28And say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things?

29And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.

30The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? answer me.

31And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?

32But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed.

33And they answered and said unto Jesus, We cannot tell. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.

Key Verse: “And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things” (Mark 11:29).

Message

Our text reveals how the religious leaders questioned Christ’s authority to cleanse the temple or teach the people (Luke19:45-48). They were offended and embittered because Christ condemned the evil practices they tolerated and practised. Their question was to embarrass and discredit Christ before the people, but their efforts ended in futility. Christ’s display of true and godly wisdom while answering them is worthy of emulation. He did not argue or attack and abuse anyone, even at this provocation. He was calm, composed and coordinated.

As Christian youths, we need wisdom to respond to questions appropriately during examinations or job interviews. We need the wisdom that is found in Jesus alone to answer people calmly when they deliberately ask questions to provoke or mock our Christian faith. Unbelieving peers will definitely ask questions to test your patience. If you are a born again youth, use their questions as opportunities to preach the gospel to them.  Believing and receiving Christ as Lord and Saviour is the true wisdom. Have you answered this all-important question, “Where will you spend eternity?”

Quote: Answer people calmly

Challenge: Allow God to guide you today!

Prayer for today: Help me Oh God, to answer questions gracefully in Jesus name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
