DCLM Daily Manna 24 May 2024 — Refining By Fire
DCLM Daily Manna 24 May 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — “Refining By Fire”
TOPIC: Refining By Fire (DCLM Daily Manna 24 May 2024)
KEY VERSE: “And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness” (Malachi 3:3).
TEXT: Malachi 3:1-6 (KJV)
1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.
2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:
3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.
4 Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the Lord, as in the days of old, and as in former years.
5 And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the Lord of hosts.
6 For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:
No dross is ever retained in gold after an encounter with the smith’s furnace. The outcome is a precious metal fit for use in the royal court. It is the same with sullied clothes sent to the launderer. He turns them over and over in the machine until no speck of dirt can be found on them again. Both pass through these gruelling tests to qualify for distinctive presence in the service of their owners.

Like the work of the refiner and the laundry man, the Lord says He is sending His dear Son, Jesus Christ to purge and purify His people. The reference to cleansing the Levites points to the purifying of all believers in Christ. We need to be made fully clean for service in His kingdom. The Lord’s desire is that His people become more effective and fruitful in His service.
Therefore, He regularly and constantly prunes and purges them of all things that are capable of dulling their lives and making them ineffective and unfruitful. The purifying process is usually not easy and pleasant to the flesh. It may involve a form of correction and discipline in order to set us right. At other times, it may mean taking away from us certain not-all-together sinful things that tend to act as dross and lures that weaken us. Whatever it is, we should gladly and willingly submit to it. At the end of the day, we will come out as better purified vessels fit for divine use.

Except we are willing to submit ourselves to divine refining, we will never come to be our best. In fact, those dust and dirt that we allow to accumulate in us will eventually become risky to our spiritual health and can damn us. Just as we undertake bathing daily in order to stay clean and healthy, so must we daily present
ourselves to the Lord to refine and purge us.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
None dies in God’s refining fire; everyone comes out of it purer.
THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
