DCLM Higher Everyday 28 August 2024 — Rejoice For Righteousness

DCLM Higher Everyday 28 August 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiRejoice For Righteousness

Topic: Rejoice For Righteousness

Text: Luke 10:17-20

16He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.

17And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

18And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

19Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

20Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

Key Verse: “Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10:20).

Message

The disciples of Christ returned from an outreach where they experienced raw miracles as Satan fell before them. They were thrilled beyond words because of the awesome power that accompanied their spoken words. They operated in the supernatural and tasted of God’s abundant faithfulness of confirming every word with signs. The Master Jesus Christ rejoiced with them and even promised them more power, but was quick to warn: “Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10:20). Many so-called believers are carried away by signs and wonders and would not bother to appraise their spiritual positions in the light of the scriptures. Power without purity is perilous, and an indication that you are still in the palm of the devil.

Our Rejoicing should be tied to the salvation in Christ which came to us as a result of God’s acceptance of us because of Christ’s vicarious death on the cross and not just on miracles. Modern Pentecostalism places more emphasis on miracle seeking than the salvation of people. Beware!

Quote: Power without purity is perilous

Challenge: Character is more important than charisma.

Prayer for today: Lord, help me to place higher value on my salvation than anything else.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
