DCLM Higher Everyday 23 April 2025 — Rejoice In Righteousness
DCLM Higher Everyday 23 April 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Rejoice In Righteousness
Topic: Rejoice In Righteousness
Text: Luke 10:13-20
13Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
14But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.
15And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell.
16He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.
17And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
18And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
19Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
20Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
Key Verse: “Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10:20).
Message
In our text the disciples of Jesus Christ were rejoicing for the breakthrough they had in their evangelistic outreach testifying that even the devils were subject unto them through His name. Jesus spoke to them on the need for them to rejoice because their names were written in heaven. It is possible to have temporal happiness, when we gain admission into an institution of higher learning, success in examination, healing from sickness and many other good things that appeal to us in this life. But our rejoicing and happiness will be complete only when we are saved and living righteously. For then, beloved, are our names written in heaven for unending rejoicing.

Righteousness assures you of heaven. Stephen was sure of heaven at the point of death, and so was Apostle Paul (Acts 7:55-56; 2 Timothy 4:6-8). You must walk in righteousness so that your life will make Christ to be happy with you. What joy will you have if your name is not written in heaven? What joy will you have if you do not have Jesus? Let righteousness be your daily pursuit.
Quote: Righteousness assures you of heaven
Challenge: Let your name be in the book of life.
Prayer for today: Lord, help me to remain righteous.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
