Topic: Respect For Elders

Text: Ephesians 6:1-4

1Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

2Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)

3That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

4And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Key Verse: “Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)” Ephesians 6:2

Message

Children are commanded to honour their parents so as to enjoy the accompanying blessings of wellness and long life. However, many children turn deaf ears to this command and disrespect their parents and other elders. These could be their teachers at school, and leaders in the church or community, this is unacceptable by God.

Elisha was a man who had been mightily used of God to bless his community. On his way home, some children, about forty-two (42) of them came out of the city to mock him. They had no respect for elders. They were cursed and were thereafter destroyed by two she-bears. What a pity! A

So many children have had their lives and destinies destroyed because they were rude and disobedient to their elders thereby Incurring curses instead of blessings. Do not mock, talk down on, abuse or disobey your parents or other elderly people. Rather, treat them with respect

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
