DCLM Higher Everyday 2 October 2024 — Safety When It Is Stormy
DCLM Higher Everyday 2 October 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Safety When It Is Stormy
Topic: Safety When It Is Stormy
Text: Acts 27:13-25
13And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by Crete.
14But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon.
15And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive.
16And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat:
17Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven.
18And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next day they lightened the ship;
19And the third day we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship.
20And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.
21But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.
22And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship.
23For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,
24Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.
25Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.
Key Verse: “Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me” (Acts 27:25).
Message
Stormy weather refers to a violent disturbance of the atmosphere with strong winds, rain, thunder, lightning or snow. Naturally living things, including human beings avoid storm except the eagle. The eagle is the only bird that embraces the turbulence of the storm to fly higher as it takes the advantage of strong winds to achieve high altitude.

Storms in life are inevitable. Storms like persecution, hunger, academic setback, inadequate provision, loss of close relatives are common to believers. Storms do not signify the end of the road. If a storm blows your way, do not be perturbed like sinners who have no hope. God is aware of your situation every time. He will work it out for you. There is safety under the wings of the Lord. No amount of storm can flush out the water inside the coconut fruit. Apostle Paul got to Rome despite the storm in his way. With Jesus in your heart, you will surely smile during stormy moments. However, make sure you are a child of God to enjoy the promise of His presence in times of challenges.
Quote: Do not be perturbed
Challenge: God is able to keep His own from danger.
Prayer for today: Hide me, O blessed Rock of Ages.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
