DCLM Higher Everyday 11 November 2024 — Saints Are Living Sacrifices
DCLM Higher Everyday 11 November 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Saints Are Living Sacrifices
Topic: Saints Are Living Sacrifices
Text: Romans 12:1-2
1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Key Verse: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1).
Message
In the Old Testament, the people always offered animal sacrifices unto the Lord to atone for their sins whenever they erred. But in the new covenant, Christ has offered Himself for us so sinners do not need to offer animal sacrifices for sin anymore as Christ has paid the supreme price for their salvation already on the cross. Believers should no longer live for themselves but to live in holiness and righteousness unto God. We are called to present our bodies as a holy temple where God can dwell, and be glorified in. 1Peter 2:5 says, “Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.”

Our spiritual sacrifice and service must be holy and to be acceptable before the Lord. An animal in Old Testament that was to be sacrificed could not struggle because it was tied to the altar of sacrifice. Believers in the New Testament bring themselves to the altar and remain there voluntarily as a sweet-smelling savor unto God.
Quote: Remain there voluntarily
Challenge: Your body is the temple of God.
Prayer for today: Lord, give me grace to live for you.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
