DCLM Higher Everyday 11 January 2026 — Say No To Depression
DCLM Higher Everyday 10 January 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Say No To Depression
Topic: Say No To Depression
Text: Philippians 4:6-9
6Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
8Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
9Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
Key Verse: “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (Philippians 4:6).
Message
The word depression according to Oxford dictionary means, a mental condition characterized by feelings of severe despondency and dejection. Discouragement can come the way of believers because the world is full of adversities. To this end, the iconic Billy Graham lamented: “The Christian life is not a constant high. I have moments of discouragement. I have to go to God in prayer with tears in my eyes, and say, ‘O God forgive me’, or ‘help me’.” We learn from this quote that when we feel discouraged, we should approach God for help. Several youths have fallen into a state of depression because they meditated more on their problems than talking to God who has solutions to all challenges and whose promises are unfailing.

As Christian youths, we should let our minds be filled with the Word of God daily and always trust Him to see us through life’s challenges. However, it is important to note that God will only take care of our hearts and purge them from depression if we have given our lives to Christ and made Him Lord and Saviour.
Quote: God will…take care of our hearts
Challenge: Never let the challenges of life determine your self-worth.
Prayer for today: Father, set me free from depression.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
