DCLM Sincere Milk 18 December 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Say “No” To Laziness
Topic: Say “No” To Laziness
Text: Proverbs 24:30-34
30I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
32Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.
33Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
34So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
Key Verse: “Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:” Proverbs 24:33
Message
A man had a farm where he sent his two children to work every Saturday when they were not in school. But each time these children got to the farm, they would play for several hours, talk and then sleep. When they woke up, they returned home without doing any work on the farm. They would then tell lies to their father that they did a lot of work on the farm. The father would always praise them for their efforts and encouraged them to continue. One day the father went to the farm to see the work the children had done. He discovered to his surprise that all the crops planted in the farm have been overgrown by weeds and thorns. The whole farm was in a very bad state. The man was very disappointed. He returned home with annoyance to punish the children severely.

Lazy children spend their time playing, watching cartoons, talking, sleeping, playing games, and engaging in many unprofitable activities. Friends of Jesus should never be lazy. Do not push to the future what you are supposed to do now. You cannot overcome in your own power, give your life to Jesus today. Tell Him to deliver you from the sin of laziness.

Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, deliver me from the sin of laziness so I can achieve great things in life.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
