DCLM Higher Everyday 30 January 2024 — Search The Scripture
DCLM Higher Everyday 30 January 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Search The Scripture
Topic: Search The Scripture
Text: Acts 17:9-14
9And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.
11These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
12Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.
13But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.
14And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timotheus abode there still.
Key Verse: “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” (Acts 17: 11).
Message
According to John Ripper, “There is a spiritual diet without which no Christian can be strong, healthy and fruitful, that is, the Word of God. Without it, you starve every grace that God means for you to thrive in His World.” The Berean believers, in our text, upheld this assertion by searching the Scriptures daily, to validate what they heard from the apostles. Mere hearing and reading God’s Word is not sufficient for our walk with God. Every believer, including youths, must search the Scriptures to know the mind of God, and enhance personal conviction necessary for Christian growth and walk with Him. Do you search the Scriptures like the Berean believers?

Dear friend, if there is any time you need to search the Scriptures, it is now. You cannot survive the challenges of our time without God’s Word. It has power to transform your life, strengthen your faith, and give you victory over youthful lusts. To remain steadfast in your faith, have a good copy of the Bible, not just the electronic version; read and pray it in often, obey it, and preach Christ as led by the Spirit.
Quote: Oh God, give me a passion for your Word in Jesus’ name.
Challenge: Search the Scriptures daily for a vibrant Christian life.
Prayer for today: Have a good copy of the Bible.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
