DCLM Higher Everyday 30 August 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Seek The Secret Place
Topic: Seek The Secret Place
Text: Psalm 91:1-4
1He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Key Verse: “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1).
Message
During warfare, bunkers, usually built underground, are used as defensive military fortifications. They are designed to protect people and valued materials from bombs, artillery or other attacks. Explosive devices however could be used to destroy the bunkers, but God’s secret place remains forever impenetrable to Satan and all his cohorts. On daily basis, the Christian soldiers are faced with battles. Apostle Paul says, believers are on the battlefield against hordes of invisible enemies, who are ready to destroy. However, in Christ, we enjoy divine preservation and protection from epidemics, pandemics, oppression, depression and all attacks from enemies.
The Psalmist expressed personal faith and confidence in God by his use of personal pronouns like “I” and “My” in verse 2, of our text, which reveals the great blessings available to every individual who comes into an intimate relationship with the Lord. Many young people associate with cultists and get into many diabolical practices because they fear being harmed by unknown or imaginary enemies. Your security is guaranteed only when you turn away from your sins and accept Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
Quote: Your security is guaranteed
Challenge: Express your faith in God.
Prayer for today: Lord, hide me in your secret place.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
