DCLM Higher Everyday 7 June 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Serve The Lord With Gladness
Topic: Serve The Lord With Gladness
Text: Psalm 100:1-5
1(A Psalm of praise.) Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
2Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
3Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
5For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
Key Verse: “Serve the Lord with gladness, come before His presence with singing” (Psalm 100:2).
Message
To serve the Lord means a lot of things, including worship. Simply put, serving God is living for Him. Every day of your life should be dedicated to pleasing Him as Jesus did while on earth. You serve God by knowing Him and doing His will – living a holy life, evangelizing, working in His house, caring for the poor and needy and using all your resources to do His work. Often, you are faced with challenges while serving God, but continue to serve with gladness. John Bunyan, was serving God but was later put in Bedford Jail. Not discouraged, there he wrote the Christian classic, The Pilgrims Progress. He says, “I was at home in prison and I sat me down and wrote, and wrote, for joy did make me write.” Can you imagine a prisoner writing with joy a book that would eventually transform millions of lives?

In our text, the psalmist challenges all believers to serve God cheerfully. Serve by living holily, singing in the youth choir, and preaching to sinners by various means. Serving the Lord with gladness delights Him and attracts His blessings upon us.
Quote: Serving God is living for Him
Challenge: Are you serving God with gladness or grudgingly?
Prayer for today: Lord, help me to serve you with gladness.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
