DCLM Higher Everyday 15 July 2025 — Sing God-Honouring Songs
DCLM Higher Everyday 15 July 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Sing God-Honouring Songs
Topic: Sing God-Honouring Songs
Text: Psalms 105: 1-7
1O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.
2Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.
3Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.
4Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore.
5Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;
6O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen.
7He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth.
Key Verse: “O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works” (Psalms 105:1, 2).
Message
The word ‘honour’ simply means, to show great respect and admiration for somebody. God-honouring songs refer to songs with lyrics showing great respect and admiration for God, who does great and mighty things for His children. Honouring God begins first in our hearts. God-honouring songs are Scripture-based; they act as spiritual food for the soul and exalt God.
According to D. L. Moody, “Singing does at least as much as preaching to impress the Word of God upon people’s minds.” Through gospel hymns and songs people are saved, developed, established and encouraged in their faith. People are also healed physically and spiritually through singing of God-honouring songs. Sadly, through youths, the devil is polluting the music industry with morally and spiritually unwholesome songs which turn people away from Christ. They are misusing their skills.

Dear friend, skillfully compose or sing God-honouring songs. Shun worldly music which promotes the way of the world and dishonours God. Sing unto God like Paul and Silas in jail, or like Moses and the Israelites after crossing the Red Sea (Acts 16:25-26; Exodus 15:1-7). This will draw unbelieving mates to Jesus.
Quote: They act as spiritual food
Challenge: Wishing you happy World Youth Skills day.
Prayer for today: Help me Lord to shun songs that dishonour You.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
