Text: Ephesians 5:15-21
15See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
18And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
21Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

Message
Spiritual songs minister to the total man. Melodious songs with inspiring lyrics edify the spirit, uplift the soul and bring health to the body. Edifying songs spring from a grateful trusting heart because there is always something to be thankful for. The modern day hip-hop, pop and high life music that are mainly sensational, noisy and most times erotic, do not edify saints. They are harmful to the spiritual welfare of heaven bound believers. Ungodly songs turn the heart away from holiness, righteousness and purity. Believers must shun such unprofitable songs.

Songs work wonders. Battles have been won, chains and fetters broken, spectacular miracles wrought. Singing takes a lot of stress out of our lives and relaxes our nerves. Believers are supposed to obey this injunction and enjoy the blessings in songs. Gospel hymns and songs are not meant for church service alone. Spiritual songs are meant for our growth and edification and can be sung any where. Are you a singing Christian?

Prayer for today: I determine to sing praises to God always.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
