DCLM Higher Everyday 25 January 2024 — Solo Effort In Preaching
DCLM Higher Everyday 25 January 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Solo Effort In Preaching
Topic: Solo Effort In Preaching
Text: John 4:5-15
5Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
7There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
8(For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
9Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
10Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
11The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
12Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
13Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
14But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
15The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
Key Verse: “The woman then left her water pot, and went her way into the city and saith unto the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?” (John 4: 7).
Message
A young seminary student who had made up his mind to go and preach among the Philippines was asked, “If you were offered a comfortable pastorate with many opportunities for service in America after graduation, would you accept it? He shook his head and said, “I have already been called to preach to the Chinese in Philippines, I will not go elsewhere…”
To the regions beyond I must go I must go
Where the story has never been told
To the millions that never have heard of His love
I must tell the sweet story of old.

Solo effort in preaching also called personal evangelism is a deliberate effort by an individual to preach the gospel to sinners. The great commission is not an option to be considered, but a command to be obeyed. The Samaritan woman, a new convert, did it. Every Christian must be on the harvest field. None should have luxurious ease to sit comfortably in church enjoying sermons. Soul winning brings joy to God, the convert and the soul-winner. For every soul won for Jesus there is a reward.
Quote: Lord, help me to preach the gospel daily.
Challenge: Go, and rescue the sinners before it is too late.
Prayer for today: Be on the harvest field.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
